Training

McJunkin has a dedicated training department, based in Charleston, West Virginia, with field support based at each regional headquarters location.  This department’s mission is to support McJunkin’s growth and success based on the theme “ASPIRE” (Acquire Skills to Pursue Improvement and Reach Excellence).

The training department leads or oversees training for new and existing employees on all levels. The department organizes its programs around five key disciplines:
•  Warehouse Management
•  Customer Sales & Support
•  Supply Management
•  Administration
•  Management

Training is delivered through four primary channels:

1.  Face-to-face Internal – utilizing dedicated trainers from the department or designated field trainers, the training department provides in person class room training. In these settings the instruction is highly interactive.

2.  In-person External – through relationships the training department has established with outside services, employees receive training from an outside provider on topics better handled by another training agency

3.  Computer Based Training (CBT) – in order to reach all of McJunkin’s employees nationwide, McJunkin utilizes its intranet to provide training. By programming certain modules into a computer-based format, employees are able to receive training, take tests, practice scenarios etc. in a way that fits their schedules.

4.  Self-Study – the training department maintains a library of resources for employees to pursue training on their own. These resources include books, videos, or worksheets.

McJunkin’s training department uses a computer application to track employee participation in training sessions in order to ensure compliance with required training and to track and report on additional training.

Supervisors and Managers receive training in a variety of disciplines. Courses that are specifically targeted to this group include: time management, people management, planning & forecasting, problem resolution, business writing, and public speaking skills, among others.
