Executive Biographies
H. B. (Bernie) Wehrle III - President and Chief Executive Officer
Bernie Wehrle began his career with McJunkin in 1973 as a sales representative. Later, he was promoted to Treasurer, then Executive Vice President, and finally he was elected President in 1987.
He is affiliated with the American Supply Association and the Young Presidents’ Organization, and serves on the Boards of the National Institute for Chemical Studies in Charleston, WV and the Mountain Company in Parkersburg, WV.
Bernie graduated from Princeton University in 1973 and received an MBA from Georgia State University in 1978.
Stephen D. Wehrle - Executive Vice President Sales
Steve Wehrle began working at McJunkin Corporation in 1974 as an Inside Sales Representative. He was promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales in 1987 and Executive Vice President of Sales in 2004.
He currently serves as a Director for Thomas Memorial Hospital, Fund for the Arts, and the Chemical Alliance Zone in Charleston. He is Director Emeritus of Children’s Home Society of West Virginia.
Steve graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.A. degree in 1974.
Jim Underhill - Chief Financial Officer
Jim joined McJunkin in 1980 and oversees McJunkin's Information Services, Accounts Receivable, Credit and Collections, Finance, Traffic, Leasing, Corporate Purchasing, and Mergers and Acquisitions. He has been involved in numerous implementations of electronic customer solutions and has had primary responsibility for the acquisition and integration of more than 30 businesses ranging in size up to 20 locations and several hundred employees. Jim was also project manager for the design, development, and implementation of McJunkin’s FOCUS operating system.
Jim earned his BA in Accounting and Economics from Lehigh University and his CPA in the state of Pennsylvania. Prior to coming to McJunkin, Jim worked in the New York City office of the CPA firm of Main Hurdman/Peat Marwick Main.
Rory Isaac - Senior Vice President of National Accounts
Rory Isaac joined McJunkin in 1981. He has extensive experience in sales, customer relations and management as branch manager, regional manager and regional Vice President. He moved to the corporate office in Charleston, WV in 1995 as Senior Vice President for National Accounts, where he is responsible for managing and growing McJunkin's National Accounts customer base, increasing McJunkin's market share in key initiative areas including Gas Products and Integrated Supply, and marketing McJunkin's capabilities.
Gary Ittner - Senior Vice President of Supply Management
Gary Ittner started with McJunkin in 1971 following his freshman year at the University of Cincinnati and joined the company full time following his graduation in 1974. During the next 21 years he held several positions for McJunkin including sales, branch management and later, regional management. These positions included stops in Akron, OH, Pittsburgh, PA and in 1995, Charleston, WV. Gary’s responsibility shifted with the move to Charleston, as he assumed the responsibility of procuring the stainless and alloy pipe, valves and fittings. After a corporate reorganization at McJunkin in 2006, Gary took on the position of Senior Vice President for Supply Chain Management.
Ittner oversees all procurement of McJunkin's industrial pipe, valve, and fittings products.
Matt Bailey - Senior Vice President of Human Resources
Matt Bailey joined McJunkin Corporation in 2007 as Senior Vice President of Human Resources, bringing with him over 15 years of domestic and international business experience. Employed as a consultant and project leader with The Boston Consulting Group, Bailey most recently served as Vice President of Morgan Howard Worldwide, an executive search firm.
As Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Matt leads the development and execution of human resource strategies to support McJunkin’s growth.
Bailey holds a BA in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
V.T. "Sparky" Adams - Senior Vice President, Eastern Region
Sparky Adams joined McJunkin in 1970 as a Sales Management Trainee. Over the years, Adams has held a variety of positions including Inside Sales Representative, Outside Sales Representative, Regional Manager, and Regional Vice President. In 1995, Adams was promoted to the position of Senior Regional Vice President. Located at McJunkin’s Corporate Headquarters in Charleston, WV, Adams oversees the sales and operations of the entire Eastern Region.
Adams is a graduate of Morris Harvey College.
Clyde Certain – Senior Vice President, Southwest Region
After graduating from the University of Tulsa, Clyde Certain joined Grant Supply Company. During his tenure with the company, he re-located to Houston where he was promoted to Executive Vice President in 1975 followed by a second promotion to President in 1984. Three years later, McJunkin acquired Grant Supply, adding Certain to the team as Senior Vice President of the Southwest Region where he oversees the sales and operations of the entire region.
David G. Huffman, Jr. - Senior Vice President, Western Region
David Huffman, Jr. began his career with McJunkin in 1968 as a part-time Warehouse Associate. Accepting a full-time position four years later, Huffman has served in a variety of roles for McJunkin including Expediter of National Accounts, Inside Sales Representative, Outside Sales Representative, Branch Manager, and Regional Manager. In 1998 he was promoted to the position of Senior Regional Vice President – Western Region overseeing the sales and operations of the entire region.
Huffman graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan with a B.A. in Economics.
Scott Hutchinson - Senior Regional Vice President, Midwest
Scott Hutchinson came to McJunkin from Grant Supply Company in 1986. Serving as an Outside Sales Representative for Grant from 1984-1986, Hutchinson joined McJunkin in the same role. In 1988, he went to Benicia, California as a newly appointed Branch Manager to oversee the implementation of McJunkin in the Western Region. Two years later, Hutchinson was promoted to Regional Manager.
With McJunkin’s purchase of Republic Supply in 1992, Hutchinson was promoted once again to Regional Vice President. Serving in this role for six years, he was promoted to Senior Regional Vice President in 1998. Located at McJunkin’s Louisville branch, Hutchinson oversees the sales and operations of the entire Midwest Region.
